Thyroid profile

A blood test that measures the levels of thyroid hormones in the blood.

How it works

The thyroid gland in the neck makes hormones that set the body's pace. A blood sample shows their levels — usually TSH, T3 and T4.

What happens, step by step

  1. Step 01

Sit down and roll up a sleeve

A band is tied around the upper arm so the vein is easy to find.

  2. Step 02

    Clean the skin

The inside of the elbow is wiped with an antiseptic swab.

  3. Step 03

    Take the sample

A thin needle draws blood into one or more small tubes. It takes about a minute.

  4. Step 04

    Press and go

Cotton is pressed on the spot for a few minutes. The tubes go to the laboratory.
